What is the Lace Diamond Stitch?
The Lace Diamond Stitch is a lace knitting pattern featuring a sequence of eyelets arranged to form small arrows pointing upward in vertical alignment. The result is a light, airy, and geometric fabric—perfect for adding movement and freshness to your garments.
Thanks to its regular structure, this stitch is great for both beginners who want to explore lace knitting and more advanced knitters looking for a refined detail to add to their projects.
The best part? It adapts beautifully to a wide range of yarns—from cool cottons for summer tops to lightweight wools for spring shawls and cardigans.
How to Work the Lace Diamond Stitch
Don’t be intimidated by its sophisticated look: the Arrowhead Eyelet Stitch is based on simple decreases and yarn overs, which together create the classic lace texture.
Here are a few tips before you start:
- Count your stitches carefully: since this is a repeating pattern, keeping track of yarn overs and decreases is essential.
- Use stitch markers: they’ll help you see the repeats more clearly and avoid mistakes.
- Choose the right yarn: smooth, well-defined yarns really show off the arrow motif.
- Don’t skip blocking: once finished, blocking your work will open up the lace and enhance the stitch definition.
- Mind your tension: too tight and the eyelets may close up; too loose and the pattern could lose its shape.
We recommend starting with a small swatch (just like the one in the photo!) to get familiar with the rhythm of the stitch.
